First Monday of the New Year + a sunrise run

Aaaaand back to work we go!

Hello and happy first Monday of the new year from me and my shacket. Shirt + jacket = shacket. From here on out I’m not wearing anything but shackets. They’re so comfy omg.

After two generous weeks of holiday vacation, and a whole month in Florida, I was actually very excited to get back into some sort of routine again. I love having time off to rest, recharge, and reset, but setting an alarm last night before bed felt really good. I even meal prepped a little to get the ball rolling and get into a rhythm again.

I made gochujang chicken and roasted broccoli and zucchini, plus a few other veggie sides. I’m definitely keeping this in my regular meal rotation because it is the perfect amount of spice without lighting your mouth on fire.

Getting dressed and cooking things; look at us kicking off the new year like we said we would 😉

So, yes: routine! I feel like I’ve been flailing around the last couple days in anticipation of starting back up today, which means I am welcoming the structure back into my life and in my own space.

I got things started extra early with a run before sunrise.

Over the last month, I accidentally shifted my sleep schedule by going to bed much earlier in the evening then waking up somewhere in the 5-5:30 a.m. range. I got into a groove of doing that at my parents’ house and it has stuck around, which I’m loving.

With the extra time in the morning, I’ve been writing, reading, having coffee, listening to some music, then heading out the door for a run or ride. I feel like I’m adding hours into my day by getting up earlier and without an alarm. I hope this sticks around!

When I got out the door this morning around 6:30 a.m., it was a chilly 32*, but it felt so good and right to put in some miles as the sun illuminated the horizon. I got in about five and a half on some trails in Louisville while listening to Rich Roll’s interview with former Navy Seal, Rich Diviney. I haven’t finished it yet because his episodes are so long, but I’m really liking it so far.

What are you listening to these days?

Sending you—and our world!—all positive thoughts for a better, healthier year.
